GreenTech: A symbol that defines standards

GreenTech highlights ebm-papst's attitude, efforts and achievements in environmental protection

The challenges in striving for sustainability:

For many years now, ebm-papst has been a driving force for energy-efficient products, including in the market maturity of electronically regulated EC fans, aerodynamically enhanced fan blades, and a resource-conserving choice of materials. But alongside the development and production of energy-efficient fans and motors, ebm-papst also pays meticulous attention to integrated environmental protection and to the sustainable use of resources both in production and in its processes. The technological leader adopted this approach in 2009 under the company guideline "GreenTech".

The situation at the outset:

The GreenTech philosophy can be considered through three aspects – social, economic and environmental. Social examples: ebm-papst offers employees their own bus lines. Child care is supported with the local nursery school. There is Girls' Day for employee children. ebm-papst co-operates with schools in the region. Regional sporting clubs, cultural events, and charitable causes are sponsored by ebm-papst. ebm-papst holds events such as the ebm-papst Marathon and the ebm-papst Indoor Championships. ebm-papst is a sponsoring company of the regional Youth Research competition. Economic examples: ebm-papst provides energy-efficient products and has already fulfilled the European ErP Directive for 2015 with the EC fans. With the new development of the biomaterial fan made of epylen, renewable resources are used. ebm-papst has an energy-plus building at the Mulfingen-Hollenbach location. Environmental examples: Environmental regulations and standards are observed. The company has been certified according to ISO 14001 and expects this of suppliers. The majority of our suppliers are located in the region. Work is constantly being done on the efficiency of the products.

The solution:

We should all make an effort to establish the GreenTech philosophy - environmental protection, sustainability and efficiency - among the global staff even more strongly. The ebm-papst trainees had also resolved to do this, and thought up the "Every Day is a GreenDay" campaign. It lasts a year, based on the idea that there should be a "green" event week held at one of the worldwide ebm-papst subsidiaries each week. The global campaign kicked off on April 16, 2012, with the visit of the Minister of the Environment for the German state of Baden-Württemberg, Franz Untersteller, to Mulfingen.
The long-term, sustainable strengths:
At an early stage, ebm-papst recognised that consistently high investment in research and development and the subsequently taken path of producing of energy-efficient products that conserve resources pay off. ebm-papst was able to secure the leading position in the world market with the GreenTech strategy and, in all relevant market segments, is known as the technological leader.

The inventors:

As part of the "GreenTech" in-house climate protection strategy, trainees in the organisation are out and about, searching for areas of potential energy savings. The ebm-papst energyscouts are equipped with highly sensitive devices such as air pressure gauges and thermal imaging cameras. The efforts of the energy scouts enabled the company to realise savings of more than 100,000 EUR last year.
On April 17, 2012, the people who thought up the "Every Day is a GreenDay" campaign were distinguished with the "Selected Landmark in the Land of Ideas" award.
